Douglas Cumings Ballantyne, 94, died March 23, 2015 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Born in Flint, MI, Doug moved to Maitland FL in 1963 after serving in the Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired as a Captain in the Navy with service to the Reserves as well. A Bachelors degree was earned from his beloved University of Michigan where he was a DKE. In Flint he was co-owner/operator of Ed Cumings, Inc. on Branch Road,manufacturing landing nets. In Sanford, FL a similar company was purchased, York Sports, with stadium seats and fishing...

Douglas Cumings Ballantyne, 94, died March 23, 2015 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Born in Flint, MI, Doug moved to Maitland FL in 1963 after serving in the Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired as a Captain in the Navy with service to the Reserves as well. A Bachelors degree was earned from his beloved University of Michigan where he was a DKE. In Flint he was co-owner/operator of Ed Cumings, Inc. on Branch Road,manufacturing landing nets. In Sanford, FL a similar company was purchased, York Sports, with stadium seats and fishing lures added to the manufacturing. When Doug finally retired after his 82nd birthday, he was an accountant/mentor for several small businesses in Central Florida. Golf, football, reading were among his favorite pastimes.
Survivors include daughter: Amy Johnson (Ted) of Maitland; daughter: Martha Wells of Orange City; stepchildren: Bruce and Lynne Van Nostrand. Grandchildren include Matthew, Meredith,Jessica and Blake. Great-grandchildren include Sarah, Ethan, Adam and Marlo.
