Alan Howard Benton, 46, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away on March 28, 2015. He was born in Barstow, California to Myron and Sherry Benton. Survivors include his parents, Myron L. Benton and Sherry A. Benton; siblings, John Benton and Aimee Benton; nieces, Rosa, Chloe, Sarah and Olivia; nephew, Lucas; grandmother, Vera Benton.
At age 28 Alan was injured in a car accident and has been paralyzed for the last 18 years. Through these years Alan displayed strength, bravery, and positivity. As a result he has been an inspiration not only to his family but everyone fortunate enough to become part of Alan's life.
Alan's love of music was his biggest inspiration. He loved to listen to music but even more he loved to write music. Alan has written 100s of songs and even attempted recording his music. Alan also explored playing instruments such as acoustic guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and trumpet, all with only one functional arm.
Another passion for Alan was the organization "Locks of Love". Over the course of the last 18 years Alan has grown out his hair many times and donated it to Locks of Love.
In 2004 Alan met the woman who would become the love his life, Jodie. Jodie and Alan hit it off and have been best friends and more every since. Alan once said Jodie saved his life. Our family will be forever grateful that Jodie was able to see Alan for who he was on the inside and accepted everything about him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2015, 7 pm at Wylie Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N. Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL. 32953
